Carbide Products, Inc. has recently added three brand new machine tools and two optical comparators to an already impressive lineup of advanced manufacturing technology. This is further evidence of a commitment to continuous improvement and to their discriminating customers worldwide.

New Machines Include:

1 Studer Favorite Ø10” x 26.5” CNC Universal Cylindrical Grinder This machine is equipped with Internal Grinding Capability and a Glass Scale Direct Measuring System. This machine is designed for quick setup and super precision cylindrical grinding.

1 Mitsui High Tech Model Quick-Set 6” x 18” 3-Axis High Column CNC Surface Grinder This machine is equipped with a 5 µm coolant filtrations system, full enclosure, conversational and G-code programming, Electric Rotary Wheel Forming Devise and Variable Speed Spindle. The addition of this MHT CNC brings the total to three CNC profile grinders and expands capacity to deliver Pencil Cutter Tooling to our growing list of international customers.

1 Okamoto PRG-6DXNC CNC Rotary Surface Grinder with Ø24” electromagnetic chuck with constant surface speed capability, Fanuc 21iT control, ±5° table inclination, a 10 HP variable speed spindle and .00001” resolution; further expanding our surface grinding capacity, capability and efficiency.

1 OGP Model CC-20 20” CNC Contour Projector with Quadra-Chek 300 Geometric Readout, LED Light Source and Surface Illumination, Auto Edge Detection, Fresnel Lens Screen, Electronic Video Image Capture System, ECAD Electronic Overlay System, ECAD PC System, Metronics Auto Data Collection System This comparator enhances the inspection and documentation process keeping the quality system on the cutting edge.

1 Jones & Lamson Model FC-14 14” Optical Comparator with Surface Illumination and .0001” Resolution Digital Readout System This is a legacy machine that was completely remanufactured by Certified Comparator Products in 2011 with updated lighting and control systems.

In Memory of Bobby Joe Gunter

Bobby Joe Gunter 1977-2011

Bobby Joe Gunter, 33, husband of Stacy Hargrove Gunter, passed away March 31, 2011. He was born September 24, 1977 in Lebanon, Kentucky to Hugh Gunter of Corbin, Kentucky and the late Patricia Sallee Gunter.

Along with his wife and father he is survived by his children, Abby Jo Gunter, Wyatt Patrick Gunter, Briana Leigh Gunter, Natalie Gabrielle Gunter and sister, Katrinia Rakes of Lebanon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Stacy Gunter in memory of Bobby Joe Gunter, 5/3 Bank, 100 Lawson Drive, Georgetown, Kentucky 40324 or any 5/3 branch.

Bobby Joe was a great co-worker and an even greater human being. He will be sincerely missed. The words of his friends and co-workers memorialize Bobby Joe the best:

Carbide Products Brings World-Class Manufacturing Capability To U.S. With PC-Based Surface Grinders

Carbide Products, Inc., Georgetown, Kentucky, has introduced a more effective approach to grinding complex profiles, helping enable its U.S. customers to compete globally.

The Company is using two new grinders to streamline production of the cutting blades utilized in a broad range of manufacturing applications. Built in Japan by Mitsui High-Tec, the grinders were introduced only last year. Carbide Products is home to two of the first three of these machines installed in any U.S. shop. In fact, the Company helped the builder refine and enhance the software in the PC-based control system to make it more compatible with user expectations in this country.

Carbide Products specializes in carbide and steel tooling plus related products, including those that help manufacturers of products as widely diverse as wood-encased pencils, fabric belt loops, and peanut butter. The shop’s innovative use of CNC surface grinders has been a key enabler in this effort.
