Heavy Metal
Heavy Metal refers to a class of high density powder metal alloys of Tungsten, Nickel, Iron and Copper. These alloys are roughly twice the weight of steel and 50% heavier than Lead. The combination of high density, high elastic modulus and machinabilty make them ideal for chatter free boring bars and grinding quills. Large lengths to diameter ratios are possible due to the high stiffness and vibration dampening characteristics of this class of alloys. CPI maintains close working relationships with several producers of special and standard heavy metal bars in dozens of grades to meet specific performance requirements.
